Hat Xerocomus rubellus (diameter 3-9 cm): red, raspberry or brown.

When growing: from the beginning of August to the end of September on the Eurasian continent and in Asia. It is found in North America, but very rarely.

Where can I find: on deciduous forest soils among low grass or moss, usually near oaks.

Eating: very tasty mushroom, but it darkens noticeably when dried, so it is recommended to use it in marinated or fried form.

Hat Xerocomus chrysenteron (diameter 3-11 cm): matte, olive, burgundy or brown.

If you carefully look at the photo of the fissured moss, you can notice a barely noticeable mesh pattern and a network of wrinkles. Because of this, the mushroom got its name. A mature mushroom has the shape of a swollen pillow, but it may also be slightly depressed in the center. To the touch velvety.

Leg (height 5-12 cm): yellowish on the top, and burgundy on the bottom, covered with small scales, solid (old mushrooms may be hollow), has the shape of a club.

Tubular layer: cream, yellow or olive in color, turns blue at the pressure site.

How to distinguish a flywheel from doubles

Green-flywheel doublemottled flywheel (Xerocomus chrysenteron). This mushroom can be distinguished by a thin and reddish pigment layer under the skin.

Doubles of the red flywheel - polish mushroom (Xerocomus badius) and fissured flywheel (Xerocomus chrysenteron). But the Polish mushroom, which is most often found next to conifers - spruce or pine, has a darker hat color. A leg of a fissured moss fly has an intense reddish hue and also mainly grows in coniferous forests.

Another double of the fissured flywheel is pink-footed moss (Xerocomus trancatus). This mushroom differs only in that it grows exclusively in deciduous forests.
