Mushroom goat: photo, description

Mushroom goat (Suillus bovinus) can be found: on the acidic soils of coniferous forests, often near pine trees. The second name of the goat is a restraint. This mushroom grows from early August to late September in the temperate zone of the Eurasian continent.

Below you can familiarize yourself with the photo and description of the goat, learn about its counterparts, as well as about the use of the solitary in cooking and traditional medicine.

What does a goat mushroom look like?

Mushroom hat (diameter 4-12 cm): brown, reddish or brown, less often with a reddish tinge. Slightly swollen, but over time it becomes more flat and even. The touch is smooth, without tubercles and cracks. The peel is removed with difficulty or with small particles of pulp.

As can be seen in the photo, the goat's leg (height 5-12 cm): matte, usually the same color as the hat, has the shape of a cylinder. Often curved, solid, solid and very dense. It is smooth to the touch.

Tubular layer: yellowish or light brown. If you carefully look above at the photo of the goat’s mushroom, you can see that the tubular layer looks a bit lighter than the hat and legs.

Pulp: yellowish or brown, slightly pinkish at the place of cut or break. Smellless.

The double of the lattice is pepper mushroom (Chalciporus piperatus). However, these mushrooms can be confused only by external signs. If you recall what a goat mushroom looks like, then you can note its more impressive dimensions than that of a pepper mushroom. Chalciporus piperatus is usually much smaller in size, besides it has a specific taste, from which its name came from.
