How do edible rowans smell?

The ranks include about 2500 species, forming a large family, including edible, conditionally edible, inedible and poisonous mushrooms. These fruiting bodies grow in mixed or coniferous forests, preferring sandy soils or loam. The peak of mushroom picking occurs at the end of August and lasts until mid-October. Usually the smell of edible rows is pleasant and delicate, reminiscent of perfume. From them you can cook any dish, as well as make preparations for the winter: pickle, fry or salt.

The smell of purple and white rows when cooking

How the rowovka smells will depend on the type: it is edible or not. Note that most of these fruiting bodies still have a specific mealy smell and a bitter taste. Some row mushrooms even smell of dust or laundry soap.

For example, the row of violets, considered conditionally edible mushroom, smells of perfume. After prolonged soaking for 2 to 3 days, it should be boiled for 30 minutes in salted water with the addition of citric acid. Only after this the smell of the purple rowing disappears, it can be pickled, salted or fried.

This rowing grows in any forest, but avoids places with high humidity. The purple row is similar to the cobweb violet - a poisonous mushroom. It should never be eaten, as the mushroom is very toxic. A distinctive feature of the cobweb is a hat covered with cobwebs.

Another kind of rows with a smell of dust is white rowan. Being a poisonous mushroom, it has not only an unpleasant smell, but also a bitter taste. Experienced mushroom pickers always bypass this row, although it masquerades as champignon or young white mushroom. If you cut it off, the pungent smell of dust immediately makes it clear what kind of mushroom it is. White row grows in small groups or alone. It can be found not only in dense forests with a predominance of birch forests, but also in park areas, groves or in meadows. Some mushroom pickers claim that the white row in the case of a break smells like gas or laundry soap. Young specimens of this poisonous fungus have a weaker smell than mature representatives. Even after prolonged soaking and cooking, the smell of white rowing does not disappear. But this process is not necessary, because the mushroom is poisonous.

Taste quality of rows

In terms of taste, edible and conditionally edible ones practically do not differ from other mushrooms that can be eaten. However, many mushroom pickers, especially beginners, are afraid to collect them, because all the rowers have an interesting bright or pale color, which is characteristic of some false doubles and even grebes. That is why it is very important to be able to distinguish between edible types of rows.

Do not forget the main rule of the mushroom picker: “Not sure - don't take it!”. Collect only those types of mushrooms in which you are sure. And if there is even the slightest doubt, it is better to abandon the idea of putting mushrooms in a basket. In addition, the smell of the row stands says a lot: if it is unpleasant, it has a powdery or dusty aroma - a poisonous mushroom.
